Land and Liberty (newspaper)

Land and Liberty (newspaper)

Land and Liberty was an anarchist monthly periodical published in Hayward, California circa 1914 to 1915.

The editor was William Charles Owen (who was also part of publishing "Regeneracion", the better known newspaper associated with Ricardo Flores Magon). Issues included articles, mostly criticizing the war (World War I) and/or socialists of the day; papers on the situation in Mexico; reviews of books by (for example) Gustave Le Bon, Robert Hunter, and Charles Daniel, and letters to the editor.

"Land and Liberty" expressed an anarchist perspective different from Mother Earth, the contemporaneous newspaper published in New York by Emma Goldman. Owen particularly criticized Goldman for making so much money from her lectures on Nietzsche, whom he decried as an inspiration to German militarism.
