Vijayanagar, Bangalore

Vijayanagar is a residential locality in west Bangalore, India. It derives its name from the Vijayanagara empire that flourished in south India during 15th and 16th centuries. It is bound by Mysore Road and Magadi Road, with Chord Road cutting through.

People started dwelling in this locality from late 1970s. It has a sizable middle class population. Early inhabitants were employees of organizations such as BHEL, KIMCO, and AMCO, which are located on Mysore Road.

Maruti Mandir, Shani Mahatma temple, Kodandaramaswamy temple, Siva Ganapati temple, Adichunchunagiri temple are some of the prominent temples in this area.

Vijayanagar is close proximity to RV Engineering College, PES Institute of Technology, the Bangalore University and the National Law School of India University. Vijayanagar East is popularly known as RPC Layout (Railway Parallel Colony Layout), since this layout is along the railway track. It has been recently renamed as Hampi Nagar. Hampi was the capital of the Vijayanagar Empire.

Vijayanagar also houses a large Public Library, which is one of the largest in Karnataka. Chandra Layout is one of the fastest growing localities of Vijayanagar, which houses some of the prominent people of Bangalore.

Vijayanagar has many well recognized educational institutions, such as the St John's Educational Institutions, The New Cambridge English School, and Bharatiya Samskriti Vidya Peetha.
