History
The club was founded on April 1, 1908, in Buenos Aires by a group of anarchists who used to discuss about fighting for better conditions to the working class. That was the reason that originated its first name, Club Atlético Libertarios Unidos, but they were soon forced to change its name, because the government had prohibited any anarchist expression. So the club was renamed as Sportivo del Norte in 1919. Finally, in 1924 Colegiales adopted its current denomination and also moved to its new stadium, located in Munro, Buenos Aires. The team's first president was José Garrone.
Colegiales played at the top level of Argentine football during the era before the professionalization of the game (1920–1934). The team was runner-up in the Amateur league of 1932, winning the amateur championship in 1947.
After the abandonment of the AAAF amateur league in 1934, Colegiales had played in the second division, but in recent decades the squad has been falling down the categories, winning its last championship in 2004, which allow Colegiales to play in the Primera B Metropolitana division.
Team uniform
The first team shirt was red with a black stripe, taking the colors that identified the anarchistic movement. In 1924, the current three-colored shirt of blue, red and yellow was finally adopted and this combination has remained until now.
Stadium
The club currently plays at Estadio Munro, sited in Antonio Malaver and Gervasio Posadas streets in Munro, since 1948. As time went by, Colegiales played its home games in diverse stadiums, most of them situated in Buenos Aires: the first in Blandengues y Manzanares streets (1908), then in Teodoro García and Giribone streets in Colegiales neighbourhood (1924), and the last in Fraga and Estomba streets (1941). In 1948 Colegiales moved to Villa Martelli, Vicente López Partido, where hosted a brief time previously to the move to Munro where the club has established since then.[1]
