Demuzio ran unopposed in November 2004 to keep the seat vacated by her husband for the rest of his term. In 2006 she defeated Republican Jeff Richey in the general election. Her current re-election race however, against Republican Sam McCann, is regarded as one of the most competitive legislative races in the state. She resides in Carlinville.

As of the 2010 Election Deanna Demuzio lost to Sam McCann.
