Ikon (magazine)

Ikon (magazine)

"Ikon" was a short-lived monthly British magazine which ran for five issues between September 1995 and February 1996 (the last published issue was the January/February 1996 issue, the previous four having been for the respective last four months of 1995). It was published by European Consumer Publications Ltd and edited by Chris Roberts.

The magazine attempted to cross generic boundaries by covering music, movies and sport (the three words appearing above the title on the cover of each issue).

Regular features included:

*Ikonoclast - as the name suggests, this section took a generally disfavourable look at some of the day's icons. Bill Gates, Marlon Brando and Sean Connery were among the subjects of these articles.

*Ikon Classic - essentially the opposite of Ikonoclast, these featured whole-page images of their subjects (which included Peter Cook and Frank Sinatra) and short pieces of writing in praise of the subject.

*The Boss - 'A day in the life' style articles about people in top showbiz positions, such as Matthew Bannister (then controller of Radio 1) and Pete Waterman.
