Helen Smith (1927 – 26 December 2007) was a Porirua, New Zealand City Councillor until 2001. First elected in a by-election in the early 1970s as a Values Party councillor, Smith was the first Green candidate elected in the entire world.fact|date=December 2007 She stood as Values candidate for the Porirua electorate in the 1972, 1975 and 1978 elections on all three occasions gaining the highest number of votes of any Values candidate in the country. Smith was also the runner-up in the 1977 Mayoral election in Porirua. From 1980 until her narrow defeat from Council in 2001 Smith was Chairperson of the Community Development Committee which saw her responsible for the excellent library services in Porirua and the main instiagtor for the Pataka Complex, a world renowned library and art gallery in Porirua.

Smith was a leader in Porirua community issues. She lived in Titahi Bay with her husband Dr Allan Smith. She has four children and numerous grandchildren.
