Bombshell (Wendy Conrad) is a supervillain in the Marvel Comics Universe.

Publication history

Bombshell first appeared in "Hawkeye" #3-4 (November 1983), and was created by Mark Gruenwald.

The character subsequently appears in "Captain America" #317 (May 1986), "Avengers Spotlight" #23-25 (October-November 1989), "Captain America" #388-392 (August-September 1991), "New Warriors Annual" #2 (1992), "Spectacular Spider-Man Annual" #12 (1992), "Web of Spider-Man Annual" #8 (1992), and "Union Jack" #2 (December 2006).

Bombshell appeared as part of the "Death-Throws" entry in the "Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition" #3.

Fictional character biography

Wendy Conrad was born in Scarsdale, New York. An expert juggler that specializes in explosives, Bombshell began her criminal career as a member of the Death-Throws. Her first mission pairs her up with Oddball, as they ambushed Hawkeye and Mockingbird. Bombshell is able to defeat Mockingbird by disguising herself as a nun and attacking with her explosive gauntlets. The Avengers are eventually able to defeat Bombshell and Oddball, putting them into custody. She later battles Captain America and was invited to join Superia's Femizons.

Sphinx

Bombshell appeared as part of a multi-villain team, battling Spider-Man and the New Warriors. ["Web of Spider-Man Annual" #8 (1992)] It was revealed that she was working for the Sphinx, as part of a program to study superheroes' powers for the benefit of super-criminals.

Bombshell teamed up with the villains Rhino and Stiletto. Their trio was defeated by Spider-Man and Silhouette. Specifically, Bombshell was electrocuted by Silhoette's rigged crutches. She recovered swiftly. All the villains and heroes clashed again and again, in differing combinations. Sphinx was soon overthrown and Bombshell's base of operations was destroyed.

Bombshell appeared once again with the Death-Throws as they battled Union Jack. ["Union Jack" #2]

Appearance

Despite being depicted as a large, slightly muscular woman in her earlier appearances, Bombshell has adapted a more feminine look in her most recent appearances.

Powers and abilities

Bombshell is not only a great juggler, but also an expert in explosives, including creating, preparing or defusing any explosive object. She juggles with armed explosives, including hand grenades -- she tosses the ring in the last spin before throwing them. Sometimes she uses stun rays in her wrists.
