Essex Street Market

Essex Street Market

The Essex Street Market is an indoor retail market that was one of a number of such facilities built in the 1930s under the administration of Mayor Fiorello La Guardia at 120 Essex Street at the corner of Delancey Street. The markets were constructed to reduce pushcart congestion on the narrow streets of the Lower East Side of the New York City borough of Manhattan.

The Essex Street Market is operated and managed by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). The 15,000 ft² market is made up of 42 individual stalls that range in size from 90 to 600 square feet. The market is accessible via the NYCS|J, NYCS service|M and NYCS|Z New York City Subway stop at Essex Street and the NYCS service|F station at Delancey Street.
