Gerberga of Provence

Gerberga of Provence

Gerberga (c. 1060 – 1115) was the Countess of Provence from 1093 to 1111 or 1112. She was a sister of Bertrand II of Provence and Matilda.

In 1073, she married Gilbert I of Gévaudan. He was assassinated in 1111 and, the following year, she married her eldest daughter Douce off to Raymond Berengar III of Barcelona and ceded Provence to him. Her second daughter, Stephanie, would lay claim to the county and thus precipitate the Baussenque Wars.
