M-204 M-206

M-205 was a state trunkline highway in the US state of Michigan. The route was turned back to local control in October 2002 by the Michigan Department of Transportation after the completion of M-217/Michiana Parkway. The MDOT swapped roads with the Cass County Road Commission ending the 67-year history of M-205.

Route description

M-205 was a very short highway that ran through wooded terrain from US 12 (the old US 112) to the Indiana state line, where it continued as State Road 19, connecting to Elkhart, Indiana. Its intersection with US 12 (and northern terminus) was between Union and Adamsville. It went through no towns within Michigan.[2][3]

History

On the original US Highway plan, US 112 followed what was M-205 into Indiana. Michigan diverted what was then US 112 along a route entirely within Michigan, and the very short, but locally important segment of cut-off highway became US 112S and then M-205. The route served to connect US 12 with the Indiana Toll Road. As part of the swap between MDOT and Cass County, M-217 was designated several miles to the east as a new connecting route to the toll road. M-205 was transferred to local control on October 10, 2002. However, the M-205 designation can still be seen on many maps, including those available from the MDOT as recently as June 2004.[1]

Major intersections

The entire highway was in Mason Township, Cass County.
