Asian Games medal count

Asian Games medal count

The total medal count for all Asian Games from 1951 to 2006 is tabulated below.

This table is sorted by the number of gold medals earned by each National Olympic Committee (NOC). The number of silver medals is taken into consideration next, and then the number of bronze medals. If, after the above, NOCs are still tied, equal ranking is given and they are listed alphabetically. This follows the system used by the IOC, IAAF and BBC, but not by NBC and CNN.

Note that medals won at the Asian Winter Games, the Asian Indoor Games and the Asian Beach Games are excluded.

China first joined the Asian Games in 1974 and has led the gold medal count in each Asian Games since 1982. Before 1974, China had boycotted the Asian Games due to political reasons. [http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/OtherSports/2006/12/14/2789470-ap.html]

As of 2006, three members of the Olympic Council of Asia have never won an Asian Games medal: Bhutan, Maldives and Timor-Leste.
