Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship is the second-tier hurling competition organized by the Cork Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The winners usually will play in the senior grade the following year for the Cork Senior Hurling Championship. This championship has been played for since 1909. In 2003, it was decided to split the grade into two different championships - Premier Intermediate and Intermediate A. The Premier winners would go to Senior while the Intermediate A winners would go to Premier. Sixteen clubs made up the Premier grade while the rest of the 2003 Intermediate teams plus Junior County Hurling winners Dromina, as well as divisional winners Argideen Rangers, Kanturk, Carrigaline, Blackrock & Watergrasshill became part of the new Intermediate grade. The Muskerry Junior A winners Grenagh declined the invitation and remained in the Junior ranks. In 2005, the winners of each of the titles competed to determine who would play in the Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship. In subsequent years, the winner of the Premier Intermediate title has represented Cork in that championship.
