"Freddy Kreuger" is the fifth single by Surrey-based rock band Reuben, and the second single taken from their debut album Racecar Is Racecar Backwards. It was released in June 2004, and was the first release on XtraMile/Sony, whom the band had at last signed a proper record deal with. The single was released on CD and 7" vinyl format, and reached #53 in the UK charts. It also made the #1 spot on the Chain With No Name independent chart, and Zane Lowe made it his Radio 1 single of the week. It was Reuben's first track to be playlisted on XFM and their first track to be played on Mary Anne Hobbs’ Rock Show. It was also played on Virgin Radio sporadically.

    Trivia

*"Kreuger" is an incorrect spelling of the character from "A Nightmare on Elm Street"; the name is actually spelt "Krueger".(From [http://www.wordsfromreuben.com the band's site] )
*the title track was nearly two years old by the time it was released; it was already as well known to the live crowds as any of the band's singles, and they had even played as part of their first Radio 1 session.
*Once is one of the bands oldest songs, dating back even before original drummer Mark Lawton had joined the band. The song had been a fixture of the band's acoustic sets. This version was recorded at the West End Centre by frequent tour manager Angus 'filthy' Cowan.
*Glitterskin is another old track, an early version of which can be found on the band's first demo EP under their original name, Angel. This version was recorded at Reading college by Stephen Down and features a blistering Hammond organ solo which divided the fans more or less straight down the middle.
*The original lyrics to Freddy Kreuger’s middle eight section were ‘I got a face like a pizza’ instead of ‘I got a hand like a knife rack’, but the band’s manager decided that the imagery of a pizza-faced man was too horrible, so frontman Jamie changed it.
*Band friend Neil Lancaster played his own seven-string guitar on the choruses in Freddy Kreuger to give it a chunkier, less poppy sound. Jamie insists that he would have given the seven-string a go, but the only one the band could borrow was left handed, and the only left handed player they knew was Neil.
*The tracks Once and Glitterskin are the first tracks recorded by Reuben to feature a slide guitar and Hammond organ, neither of which Jamie had ever played before the sessions.
*Stephen Down, who recorded Glitterskin, went to school with Jon and Jamie.
*The promotional video [http://youtube.com/watch?v=zhlQIcbG4zU] for the single was put on MTV2's A list, the band's highest listing yet. Featured in the video were director Dan Fernbach's dad, manager Barney's children Summer and Tabitha, Aldershot football club, staff and pupils at Collingwood College (Jon and Jamie's old school), Guy's brother Ashley, Jon's sister Emily, Angus and his girlfriend Emma, both Jon and Jamie's girlfriends, staff at The Traditional Plaice chip shop where Jamie works, and Matt Bews, an engineer who worked on the album.
*The band had persuaded their manger, Barney 'bad news' Jeavons to shave off his real moustache so he could wear a false one like the rest of the cast, but in the end the clip with him in was not used.
*The building where the band are seen in the video is actually drummer Guy's house.
