List of Fairy Tail chapters

This a list of the chapters of the manga "Fairy Tail", by Hiro Mashima. As of August 6, 2008, "Fairy Tail" has 102 chapters and 11 tankōbon volumes. New chapters are published in "Weekly Shōnen Magazine" every Wednesday. The first five volumes will be released in English , in the North American region, by "DEL REY".

Background

"Fairy Tail" is published as a serial in the manga anthology magazine, "Weekly Shōnen Magazine". As the magazine's name suggests, a new issue of the "Magazine" (and thus a new chapter of "Fairy Tail") is released on a weekly basis. Approximately 45-48 chapters are published per year. Two to three months after appearing in the "Magazine", these chapters are then compiled into collected volumes, or "tankōbon", which usually contain 9-10 chapters each and run to approximately 200+ pages. These volumes also include new cover artwork, storyboard-phase sketches, and other bonus features. However, due to the economical limitations of the tankōbon format, any art originally printed in color (other than on the dust jacket) is reproduced in grayscale.

Chapters not yet in tankōbon format

The following chapters have appeared in "Weekly Shōnen Magazine" (or will within the week, as titles are sometimes leaked by intrepid purchasers or subscribers ahead of the official Wednesday release). They have yet to be reprinted in "tankōbon" format, as collected volumes of "Fairy Tail" are generally released every two months. Weekly chapters do come with some benefits, such as occasional cover illustrations or color title pages, and supplemental materials such as story information. However, print quality (in terms of both paper and ink) is considerably lower than the collected releases, and artwork can be obscured by ads and other text placed there by the magazine. Buying the magazine on a consistent basis is also far more expensive than waiting for the book-format release.
