John Ewart (February 26 1928March 8 1994) was an Australian Film Institute award winning actor.

Ewart was born in Melbourne, Australia. He began his acting career when he was cast at the age of four in a radio production of "Snow White". At the age of 18 he made his film debut in the lead role of Mickey O'Riordan in Charles Chauvel's production of "Sons of Matthew".

Ewart appeared in hundreds of Australian radio, theatre, film and television productions. He was well known for his role in film "Sunday Too Far Away", his ongoing role in the Australian TV series "The Restless Years" in 1980-1981, and his lead role opposite a young Nicole Kidman in "Bush Christmas".

Ewart was diagnosed with oesophagus cancer. With only hours to live, he married his fiancee, former Australian TV presenter Jane Fennell (and daughter of his friend, the Australian actor Willie Fennell). Their marriage had been postponed due to the death of her father. John Ewart died at Greenwich Hospital in Sydney

Following Ewart's death, Australian actor Bud Tingwell made a financial gift to Scotch College, Ewart's former school in Melbourne, to honour him and his contribution to the Australian entertainment industry.
