Heyrod is a small village in
Greater Manchester , north westEngland . It forms part of the "Stalybridge North" ward of the metropolitan borough ofTameside .History
Unlike the rest of
Stalybridge , Heyrod historically formed part ofLancashire . It became part of themunicipal borough of Stalybridge in 1881. Under theLocal Government Act 1888 , the whole borough became part ofCheshire in 1889 and in 1974 it became part ofGreater Manchester .Hartshead power station
In 1926 Hartshead
power station was opened at Heyrod. Hartshead was a coal fired station that remained in use until 1975. The power station was demolished during the 1980s, although part of the site is still used as anelectrical substation . Coal was supplied to the plant from railway sidings on the opposite side of theHuddersfield Narrow Canal , via an enclosed overhead conveyor belt.ee also
