Don Bosco's F.C.

Don Bosco's Football Club is an amateur football club formed in 1972 in Derry by Terry Kelly, Mickey Carlin, Martin McLaughlin, Arty Palmer and Gerry McDaid. Terry Kelly was a former Derry City F.C. player and even captained the club on their return to senior football in the League of Ireland on September 8 1985. The club was founded from St. Mary's youth club in the Creggan area of Derry in 1972. It is well known throughout the city and indeed Northern Ireland for its relative successes at youth level. They operate eight youth teams competing in local competitions and have two teams competing in the senior Derry and District League. In 2004, the club saw one of its most successful seasons, as its then under-15 youth team won the Derry and District League and Cup, the Solar Holidays Tournament in Liverpool and also the Mallusk N.I Tournament. This success was repeated in the league in 2005 and it led to the club attracting Republic of Ireland youth internationals. Ruari Harkin, Paul King and Jonathan Hume were three of the players of the 2004 success. They each played locally at youth level for the Derry and District select and Derry City F.C. Ruari now plays for Charlton Athletic F.C. youth team, Paul plays for Derry City F.C. and Jonathan plays for Limavady United F.C.

Don Bosco's also regularly compete in tournaments around the world. In April 2007 the Under 15 team travelled to Italy to compete in a youth competition. This further boosted the club's reputation as a top youth side.
