History

The album was pushed back several times until finally being released June 24, 2008. One of the reasons why the album was pushed back so many times is because of their reality TV show on MTV Adventures in Hollyhood. The album was named "Last 2 Walk" because DJ Paul and Juicy J were the last two members remaining in Three 6 Mafia. Crunchy Black left the group in late 2006 because of money disputes. Three 6 Mafia originally started with six core members. Doe Boy Fresh (feat. Chamillionaire) - was originally the first single, but was ultimately cut from the album. The song was released on January 2, 2007 as a digital download single on iTunes.

Songs like Like Money, Suga Daddy, We Got Da Club and many others were all supposed to be included on the album, but in the end those songs did not make it onto the final version of the album possibly because of the numerous album delays.

The hit single from the album is "Lolli Lolli (Pop That Body)". The song features Project Pat, Young D & Superpower. As of August 11, 2008 it is #18 on the Billboard Hot 100, #10 on Hot Rap Tracks, #25 on the Pop 100 and is #48 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Guest features on the album include Akon, Good Charlotte, Lyfe Jennings and UGK to name a few.

To promote the album Three 6 Mafia released Last 2 Walk: The Mixtape which contain all their hits leading up to Last 2 Walk. Screwed & Chopped version by Michael 5000 Watts of The Swishahouse is available exclusively at F.Y.E..

Critical response

Last 2 Walk received positive reviews, with some critics saying that the album brought them back to their hardcore roots. Allmusic said "There's no evidence Three 6 had a fully formed Most Known Unknown-styled album in them either, so consider the uneven Last 2 Walk a fair and necessary placeholder effort with a bit of 'back to basics' thrown in to satisfy the faithful." Rolling Stone has said, "It's getting easier out there for a pimp. On their first album since they added an Oscar statuette to the gold-plated goblets in their trophy case, these Memphis rappers are in a triumphant mood. Billboard said "Last 2 Walk should satisfy longtime Three 6 fans." New York Times has said "Last 2 Walk, its first album since the excellent 'Most Known Unknown,' from 2005, sounds like vintage Three 6 Mafia: bruising production, gloriously foul-natured lyrics, single-minded focus on life’s pleasures." Rapreview.com said that "Last 2 Walk is recommended for those who can get past their banal lyricism, because between the beats and the guest stars on this album they've got a winning combination anyway."
