Strawberry milk

Strawberry milk

Strawberry milk is made either with fresh strawberries mixed with milk, with strawberry powder or with a strawberry flavored syrup. It is a relatively recent development in the dairy world. It still has not gained the commonplace notoriety that chocolate milk has, but is being sold in more stores than the future. Nesquick also makes a strawberry milk powder.

History

In the United States, strawberry milk is made by several companies. Hershey’s chocolate makes a strawberry syrup and powder that mixes with milk much in the same way as their chocolate syrup and powder. Thus making strawberry milk. Nestle's and many local dairies around the country including, Smith's, H. Meyer, United, Reiter, Trauth, Dairymen's Dairies all provide 1% strawberry flavored milk to schools in 8oz plastic recyclable bottles. Another company to make such a product is the Prairie Dog Farms milk company that makes a carton of strawberry milk.

Eric Schlosser wrote in his 2006 food education book "Chew On This" that the strawberry milk sold at McDonald's Corporation chain of slow food restaurants contains 59 ingredients (most of which are artificial additives and E numbers) but doesn't contain a single strawberry.
