Benaughlin Mountain

Benaughlin Mountain

Benaughlin Mountain is a relatively large mountain in the Cuilcagh Mountain range in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It has a limestone composition and it is known as Bin Mountain in the local area.

At its highest point, Benaughlin is 373 metres high.

The name Benaughlin comes from the Irish "Binn Eachlabhra" which means peak of the speaking horse. It is believed that a large, white horse was at one time engraved onto the slopes of the mountain however there is no visual evidence for this.

The blanket bog which covers the mountain was used as a source of fuel for the wealthy landowners in the area who lived in the nearby stately home of Florence Court and a path meanders up the side of the mountain which is known as the Donkey Trail which was the route used for taking the turf down off the mountain side.
