- The Memory of Shadows
"The Memory of Shadows" (TMoS) was the title for the first "
Babylon 5" movie intended for theatrical release, in contrast to the six previous made-for-TV movies. Little is known about it, except information that came directly from creator and writer J. Michael Straczynski. "TMoS" was cancelled in January 2005.
The movie's script was finished, but had to be rewritten due to the death of
Richard Biggs, who portrayed Stephen Franklinin the "Babylon 5" series. J. Michael Straczynski decided not to recast the character of Dr. Franklin.
The film would have been directed by
Steve Beck, and filming was slated for April 2005 in the UK. Warner Brothershad looked into the possibility of casting characters with persons other than their original actors for at least one character (Galen), however, this had met with extreme criticism from "Babylon 5" fans. On February 25, 2005, a post from Straczynski announced that the project had fallen through and was for all practical purposes dead. [http://www.jmsnews.com/msg.aspx?id=1-17289]
B5According to statements and clues made by Straczynski in a convention appearance in New Jersey, and statements on a Usenet newsgroup, it is known that the planned storyline connected to that of the short-lived "Crusade" television series. In this movie the technology of the ancient Shadow race is being unleashed on the galaxy by an unknown force.
EarthForceintelligence officer Diane Baker, whose brother was recently killed in a mysterious explosion, intends to find out who is behind the conspiracy. Joining her is Galen, a technomagewho has been charged with keeping the technology out of the hands of those who would abuse it.
