Allington Quarry Waste Management Facility

The Allington Quarry Waste Management Facility is an integrated waste management park in Maidstone, Kent England. It is also the site of the Allington Incinerator. The incinerator is owned by Waste Recycling Group as Kent Enviropower. The facility is able to process 500,000 tonnes per annum of waste and has the ability to produce 40MW of power. Over 325,000 tonnes per year of municipal waste, under a 25 year contract with Kent County Council, will come from the Council areas of Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Malling, Dartford, Gravesham and Swale [ [http://www.kentenviropower.co.uk/enviropower.asp?ID=65 Kent Enviropower Key Facts and Figures] , "www.wrg.co.uk", Accessed 23.11.06] It is a major waste facility and will contribute to Kent meeting its LATS obligations. The incinerator employs fluidised bed incineration technology. During test period by the manufacturers, before final handing over in July 2007, a severe design fault closed down the incinerator and the three burners needed rebuilding, closing the facility down for another year.
