Valentín Elizalde (February 1, 1979November 25 2006) was a popular Mexican banda music singer gunned down in an ambush. Known by the nickname "El Gallo de Oro" (The Golden Rooster), his biggest Banda hits included "Vete Ya," "Ebrio de Amor", " Vete Con El", "Vuelve Cariñito", "Como Me Duele", "Vencedor", " Mi Virgencita", and "Soy Asi." Héctor Tobar (November 25, 2006). Mexican pop singer gunned down. "Los Angeles Times"] Some of his songs were narcocorridos, and it appears he was murdered by drug trafficking gangs. Elizalde was born in the city of Navojoa, Sonora and resided in the municipality of Etchojoa, Sonora. He then moved to Guadalajara, Jalisco and later to Guasave, Sinaloa where he, his father, Lalo Elizalde, nicknamed "El Gallo" (The Rooster), and brother resided for a few years. His father, also a singer, died in a car accident on the so called "curve of death" in the city of Villa Juárez, Sonora. He had four children with his wife Camila Valencia: Jesus, Valentin, Francisco and Lidia and more with other women.

On December 6, 2007 Elizalde, as well as another murdered Mexican musician, Sergio Gomez, were nominated posthumously for the Grammy Awards. Elizalde, his manager (and best friend) Mario Mendoza Grajeda, and driver Reynaldo Ballesteros were all gunned down in an ambush after a concert in the border city of Reynosa, across the border from McAllen, Texas in an apparent gangland style hit on Saturday, November 25. Tano, his cousin, was also shot several times on the arm.

The 27-year-old Valentin Elizalde was killed about 20 minutes after performing.

According to media reports, two vehicles chased Elizalde's black 2007 Chevrolet Suburban as he left the concert and opened fire with automatic weapons as dozens of witnesses looked on. As many as 70 bullet casings were found scattered on the street around Elizalde's car. According to media reports, Elizalde was hit a total of 28 times.

After his death, controversy ensued as his autopsy was videotaped and posted on video streaming sites. Two men were subsequently jailed for violation of human rights against Elizalde.
