Buckhurst Hill is a suburban town in the Epping Forest district of Essex. It was anciently part of the parish of Chigwell. It forms part of the Greater London Urban Area.

Overview

It is 10.7 miles (17.2 km) north east of Charing Cross and near to the boundary with the London Borough of Redbridge.

It was featured on the ITV1 series "Essex Wives" a programme about women in the area who were in business or fairly well-off. With Loughton and Chigwell, it is said to form part of the Essex golden triangle of wealthy places.

Buckhurst Hill is served by Buckhurst Hill tube station which is now on the Central Line of the London Underground. The railway line was opened in 1856 as part of the Eastern Counties Railway and it was the middle-class development that resulted from this line that gave Buckhurst Hill its typical Victorian ambience.

From 1890 to 1933, it had an Urban District Council of its own. In 1933 to 1974 it formed together with Loughton and Chigwell the Chigwell Urban District. Since 1996 it has again had a parish council of its own.

It is also home to Buckhurst Hill Football Club.
