United Electronic Industries

United Electronic Industries, or UEI, based in Canton, MA, is a producer of advanced data acquisition hardware for the PCI, ISA, and PXI bus types, as well as their proprietary, award-winning Ethernet-distributed PowerDNA systemcite web | title=2004 Best in Test Winners | url=http://www.reed-electronics.com/tmworld/article/CA370697.html ] . UEI products are used primarily for data acquisition, and industrial control in industries including the automotive, and aerospace testingcite web | title=Bus interface enhances data acquisition for auto/aero applications | url=http://www.reed-electronics.com/tmworld/article/CA6390063.html ] .

UEI was founded in 1990 and was initially a distributor of ISA-based data-acquisition boards, but later changed its business direction in 1993 to begin designing and manufacturing its own boards for distribution both under the UEI brand as well as for OEMs. UEI began designing and producing high-performance boards for the PCI bus in 1998 when they also introduced the industry's first DSP-based series of data acquisition board called PowerDAQ. In 2000 UEI released drivers for the Linux platform as well as Real-time operating systems such as QNX and RTLinux; and was highlighted by a two-part Test & Measurement World article for its leadership in Linux developmentcite web | title=Get Those Boards Talking Under Linux | url=http://www.reed-electronics.com/tmworld/article/CA187397.html ] . In 2003 UEI's PowerDNA product line is introduced, providing real-time Ethernet-distributed I/O capabilities; made possible using their [then] patent-pending DaqBIOS protocolcite web | title=Dedicated Protocol operates in real-time | url=http://news.thomasnet.com/fullstory/18145 ] cite web | title=Ethernet gains hard real-time capabilities | url=http://www.engineeringtalk.com/news/uit/uit102.html ] cite web | title= Real-time control over Ethernet | url=http://www.industrialnetworking.co.uk/mag/v8-6/f_rtethernet.html ] ; the PowerDNA product line then went on to receive the 2004 Best in Test award from Test & Mesurement worldcite web | title=2004 Best in Test Winners | url=http://www.reed-electronics.com/tmworld/article/CA370697.html ] . In 2006 UEI was awarded a patent for the DaqBIOS protocolcite web | title=Methods and apparatus for performing data acquisition and control | url=http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7007107.html ] .
