Kommunity FK is a Gothic rock rock band that helped establish what came to be known as the death rock scene in Los Angeles. The band was formed in 1978 by American rock singer Patrick Mata of first "Orange" (a Starwood house band), but then was discovered and replaced the lead singer of Axcraft by record producer Ken Scott, who renamed that band and then dropped support, over personal issues. Kommunity FK was a collaboration between Pat and artist Jessica Pompei (who brought in a synthesized sound, influenced by Killing Joke, Throbbing Gristle, Magma, and Joy Division) introduced her childhood friend the outrageous clothing designer and stylish bassist Catherine Cole to Patrick Mata. Mata has stated that the band's name was inspired dually by the cold shoulder given him by media industry powers (brought upon himself by dalliances with the wives of those who were his supporters) he dubbed the trio "kommunity fuck," and by a piece of paste-up art he created of the same name. Notable influences include Public Image Limited, Bauhaus, Queen, David Bowie Specimen and 45 Grave drummer Don Bowles another Masque habituate, where the band practiced next door to the Go Go's..
