Geography

Present Day

Firswood is home to the Quadrant road junction on Kings Road which is the most recognisable place in the area: in the centre are public gardens. The Quadrant pub, a disused branch library which has been closed for several years, and a number of shops will be found there. It is also next to Longford Park which has an entrance just off the Quadrant.Old Trafford Metrolink station serves the Firswood area. A large B&Q store is nearby in Great Stone Road.

Metrolink Extension

Firswood has a disused railway running through the area which goes as far as Didsbury & starts in nearby Old Trafford. As of October 2008 work has begun to clear this stretch of disused track to be used as part of the Manchester Metrolink's Big Bang Extension.Phase 3a of the Big Bang Extension will see Firswood have its own station built off Rye Bank Road on the projected South Manchester Line. This is planned to be completed by 2011 & the line will run up to St. Werburgh's Road in nearby Chorlton-cum-Hardy. Manchester Metrolink then hope to extend the line to Didsbury & Manchester Airport.
