Girlguiding Anglia

Girlguiding Anglia is one of the nine Countries and Regions of Girlguiding UK. It is further subdivided into twelve Girlguiding Counties. These are not the same as the counties defined by the British government.

Campsites and Activity Cenres

Great Hautbois House

Great Hautbois House is the Training and Activity Centre for Girlguiding Anglia. The Region’s offices are located on the Great Hautbois Estate. It is located near Norwich.

Great Hautbois House was built in the 19th century. It has been owned by Girlguiding Anglia since 1984 and has been a Training and Activity Centre since 1988. It has had links with Guiding since the early part of the 20th century. Its previous owners, Beth and Phillipa Patteson were committed Guides from childhood and the property had often been used for Guiding activities.

Essex South East County

There are 6 Guide or Scout and Guide campsites in the Essex South East County: Guideacres, Southwoodham Ferrars HQ, Guidewoods, Belchamps, Thriftwood and Broadstone Warren.

Historical Jigsaw

Girlguiding Norfolk runs a project to document the history of Guiding in its area, called the Historical Jigsaw. Supported by a grant from Young Roots Heritage Lottery Fund, their website was launched on Thinking Day 2007. A key part of the project is collecting oral histories from people with memories of Guiding. In 2007 and 2008, a 1940's style camp was held at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse Museum, near Dereham, as part of the project. Essex International Jamboree 2008

Between 2008-07-26 and 2008-08-02, ten thousand Scouts and Guides from Essex and beyond held a Jamboree at Kirby-le-Soken, near Clacton on Sea. [cite web| title=The Outside view of the Jamboree | url = http://www.essexscouts.org.uk/jamboree2008/news/01_08_08/outside.php| accessdate =2008-09-22] The county jamboree, organised by the three counties of Essex (Essex Scouts, Girlguiding Essex North East, Essex South East and Essex West) hold a joint jamboree every four years. In 2004 there were 7,500 Scouts and Guides, also at Kirby-le-Soken. Although the Scouts in Essex have a long history of holding jamborees, the first jamboree held jointly with the Guides was in 1984.
