Henry Bridgeman, 1st Baron Bradford

Henry Bridgeman, 1st Baron Bradford (7 September 1725 – 5 June 1800) was a British noble and politician.

The son of Sir Orlando Bridgeman, 4th Baronet and Anne Newport, and therefore grandson of the 2nd Earl of Bradford, was educated at the University of Cambridge, where he graduated with a Doctor of Laws (LL.D) in 1769, and University of Oxford, where he graduated with a Doctor of Civil Laws in 1793.

Bridgeman was Member of Parliament (MP) for Ludlow from 1748 to 1768, and for (Much) Wenlock from 1768 to 1794. Between 1761 and 1764, he was Clerk Comptroller of the Board of Green Cloth. In 1762, Bridgeman inherited the estate of Weston from his maternal uncle, the 4th Earl of Bradford, and two years later he succeeded to his father's baronetcy. On 13 August 1794, he was created Baron Bradford, of Bradford in the County of Shropshire. Bridgeman died, aged 74, in Old Burlington Street, London.

Family

Lord Bradford married Elizabeth Simpson, daughter of Reverend John Simpson on 12 July 1755, they had four children:

*Hon. Elizabeth Bridgeman (d. 1810), married Sir George William Gunning, 2nd Baronet
*Orlando Bridgeman, 1st Earl of Bradford (1762–1825)
*Hon. John Simpson (1763–1850), married firstly Henrietta Francis Worsley, daughter of Sir Thomas Worsley, 6th Baronet, married secondly Grace Estwicke, daughter of Samuel Estwicke, on 27 November 1793
*Reverend Hon. George Bridgeman (1765–1832), married firstly Lady Lucy Isabella Boyle, daughter of the 7th Earl of Cork on 28 July 1792, married secondly Charlotte Louisa Poyntz, daughter of William Poyntz on 16 August 1809
