Shane Dronett (born January 12, 1971 in Orange, Texas) is an American former defensive lineman, who most recently played for the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.

Early years

Shane Dronett was born in Orange, Texas, and was graduated from Bridge City High School in Bridge City, Texas in 1989. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin on a football scholarship. NFL Years

Dronett was selected in the second round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos as an end. In his first season with the Broncos, he played in 16 games. He played for the Broncos from 1992-1995 [http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.php?id=254] .

In 1996, Dronett joined the Atlanta Falcons. Dronett then played briefly for the Detroit Lions. In 1997, the Falcons hired Dan Reeves, the man who originally drafted Dronett to play for the Broncos, to be their new head coach, and he rehired Dronett, who had just been released by the Lions.

In the 1998 season, Dronett anchored a defense that ranked second in the NFL against the run. That defense allowed only 75.2 running yards per game, and produced 313 tackles, 29.5 sacks, and 13 forced fumbles (11 recovered). The team won the NFC championship and played in Super Bowl XXXIII against Dronett's old team, the Broncos.

In January 2000, Dronett signed a five-year contract worth $20 million [http://archive.profootballweekly.com/content/archives/features_2000/spin_091900.asp] . In September, Dronett suffered a torn ACL when sacking the Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback.

Shane is married to Kris and has two daughters, Berkley and Hayley.
