Upper Galilee

Geography

The Upper Galilee is the northern sub-area of the Galilee region of Israel and Lebanon. Its highland region, located in South Lebanon is known in Arabic as Jabal Amel, [cite book|last=Salibi|first=Kamal S.|title=A House of Many Mansions: The History of Lebanon Reconsidered|year=1988|publisher=I.B. Tauris|location=London|isbn=1850430918|pages=4] and in Hebrew as the Lebanese Galilee. It is separated from the Lower Galilee by the Beit HaKerem valley. Its mountains are taller and valleys are deeper than those in the Lower Galilee. Its tallest peak is Har Meron at 1,208 m above sea level. The area spreads over 1,500 km², about 700 in Israel and the rest in Lebanon.

Safed is one of the major cities in this region.
