Withington, Gloucestershire

Withington, Gloucestershire

Withington is a village in Gloucestershire, England, about eight miles south-east of Cheltenham. Nearby Foxcote is the source of the River Coln, which runs through the village.

The parish church is St Michael and All Angels.

From 1891 to 1961 Withington had a railway station on the Midland and South Western Junction Railway which ran between Cirencester and Cheltenham.

A televised archaeological dig in the village was done by the Time Team programme in an episode first broadcast in early 2006. [http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/T/timeteam/2006_with.html] .

The Mill Inn, one of two public houses in Withington, is credited locally with creating the popular fried chicken and chips meal served in a basket in the 1960s.
