X-Series

X-Series from 3 is a mobile broadband offering from 3. It is priced like fixed line broadband. X-Series customers are charged a fixed monthly subscription, which in addition to ordinary calling minutes and texts, includes X-Series mobile broadband services, including normal internet access when mobile.

X-Series Services

These services are:
* Skype - Voice over IP telephony
* Windows Live Messenger - Instant text messages
* Slingbox - Remote control for the Digital tuner or Set-top box
* Orb - Access to videos, music and images on a PC at home that is connected to the internet

So it is basically addressing the revenue of mobile operators from voice calls, SMS, Mobile TV and mobile sales of videos and music.

Additional services part of X-Series are:

* Yahoo! Go! - Mixture of various services
* eBay - Auctioning
* Google - Internet Search

X-Series Handsets

The X-Series is available on a wide range of mobiles, depending on which country you sign up in.

In Australia, the mobile phones compatible with X-series include:
* HTC P3600i (Formerly known as Dopod D810)
* Dopod D838pro
* LG Chocolate (U830)
* LG Shine (KE970)
* Nokia E65
* Nokia N73
* Nokia N95
* Nokia 6110 Navigator
* Nokia 6120 classic
* Motorola V3xx
* Palm Treo 750

Some of these handsets are further improved by HSDPA, which is a high speed internet connection.This comes in handy when using certain X-series services such as Orb (which allows you to stream movies saved on your home PC to your mobile) and the Mobile Broadband function (which allows you to use your mobile phone as a modem and when connected to your laptop via USB/Wi-Fi, you have access the internet wherever you are, within the coverage zone.)

The theoretical maximum download rate for HSDPA enabled devices, within Australia is 3.6 Mbit/s, with a typical download range between 600 kbit/s and 1.5 Mbit/s. Yet, further improvements could upgrade this to, potentially, 14.4 Mbit/s, which is currently in effect in countries like Hong Kong and Japan among others.Through Hutchison, the mobile phones that are currently compatible with HSDPA at current are:

* Motorola V3xx (requires OTA upgrade)
* LG Chocolate (U830) (additional software required for HSDPA to become effective)
