Thomas Savin

Thomas Savin

Thomas Savin was a British railway engineer who was the contractor who built many railways in Wales and the Welsh borders in the 1860s. He also in some cases was an investor in such schemes.

Railway contractor

In 1860 Savin formed a company with David Davies to build railways in Wales. This company was the principle contractor for many of the lines that became the Cambrian Railways [cite web |url=http://www.steamindex.com/people/managers.htm |title=Biographical details of railway managers] . He also had an interest in or worked on a number of minor railways, including the Corris Railway, the The Kington & Eardisley Railway [cite web |url=http://www.smr.herefordshire.gov.uk/post-medieval/railways/king_eard.htm |title=The Kington & Eardisley Railway] and the Bishop's Castle Railway [cite web |title=BBC Shropshire article on the Bishop's Castle Railway |url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/shropshire/history/2005/03/bishops_castle_railway_01.shtml]

Savin's bankruptcy in the 1860s led to the stalling of a number of small railway schemes in Wales.
