Bishop Blanchet High School is a coed Catholic high school located just north of Green Lake in Seattle, Washington, United States. It was founded in 1954 by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle, and named for the first bishop of the diocese, A.M.A. Blanchet (1797-1887). Originally named Blanchet High School, in 1999 the title Bishop was added to make the school more easily identified as a Catholic school. According to school records, Bishop Blanchet has 1,050 students, 79% of whom are Catholic.The school employs 73 teachers (including one Dominican sister), 69 of them full-time. Annual tuition is currently $8,184 for Catholics and $9,372 for non-Catholics. Academics

Bishop Blanchet High School's academic program is focused around a college-prep curriculum with many Advanced Placement and honors courses. Currently, there are 14 AP and Honors courses available in five different subjects, including mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, and language arts. The school offers four different foreign languages: Spanish, French, Japanese, and a nationally recognized German program taught by a four-time state German Teacher of the Year. Students are also required to take four years of religious studies and attain a required amount of visual and performing arts credits. A school guide published by The Seattle Times reports that approximately 98% of graduating seniors from the class of 2005 attended some form of higher education. Current Administration

Bishop Blanchet has a new principal for the 2008-2009 school year, Dr. Maureen O'Shaughnessy. The Assistant Principal of Student Life is Chuck Bocian, a graduate of the class of 1973; the Assistant Principal of Academics for the [2008-2009] school year is Patrick Miranda. Kerry Burrows is the Math Dept. chair and was the interim assistant principal during the principal search; and the Director of Athletics, and head football and baseball coach, is George Monica. The much beloved school chaplain is Fr. Gordon Douglas, colloquially referred to as "Fr. Doug."

In recent years, a capital campaign was conducted which resulted in the remodeling of the entrance to the building and construction of the new chapel, the erection of the Haggerty Hall Music Center (situated in the former location of the visitor parking lot on the north end), and the construction of the fully operational Mickey Naish Athletic Field.Fact|date=February 2007 Its sources of revenue were grants and pledges from parents, alumni, staff, and others.

The award-winning school newspaper is called "The Miter", and is published once every month during the school year. It is open to freelance reporters and "Miter" staff (through the Journalism class). Blanchet students are encouraged to take part in sports, clubs, and activities. Popular extracurriculars include cross country, football, basketball, track, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Amnesty International, Multi Cultural Awareness Committee, Frosh Welcome and Retreat, Kairos, International Thespian Society and other drama activities, Chamber Orchestra, Community Orchestra, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Chess Club, Knowledge Bowl, and the state champion volleyball team. * Harry Purpur (1961) - Former Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Seattle
* Pat Miranda (1962) - Interim Principal at Bishop Blanchet, 2007-2008.
* Fr. Joseph Tyson (1975) - Auxiliary Bishop of Seattle at St. James Cathedral
* Rick Redman (1961) - High school All-American, NCAA All-American (University of Washington), former player and coach for the San Diego Chargers
* Patrick M. Shanahan (1980) - VP of Boeing

Honored Former Teachers

* Mickey Naish - Former social studies teacher and football coach. Thirteenth most wins in Washington state high school football history. Coached Blanchet to state football championship (1974) and four Metro League championships (1975, 1983, 1984, 1985).

* Ray Segale - Former Physical Education teacher and Blanchet's first football coach. Taught PE at Blanchet until June 1959.

* Don Zech - Former history and PE teacher, also coached Blanchet to state basketball championship (1962) with a thrilling win over Garfield in the finale. From 1968-1989, coached the University of Puget Sound basketball team to a 405-196 record, including the 1976 NCAA Division II national championship. NABC National Coach of the Year (1976).

* Frank Papasadero - Former social studies teacher and baseball coach. Papasadero later coached baseball at Seattle University.

* Paul Treckeme - Former contemporary world affairs and social studies teacher. Later head of social studies department for the Everett School District. Now retired and living in Arlington, Washington.

* Fr. Stanton Boyle - Former religion and math teacher. Fine priest and good role model of a Christian gentleman.

* Sister Mary Annetta, BVM - Former religion, journalism, and English teacher. Excellent writing teacher who sponsored national essay contest winners in 1960 (Sherry Jo Lundberg) and 1961 (Bob Struble).
