History

The hotel was built originally in 1964 as the Puerto Rico-Sheraton Hotel and it was one of the main lodging spots in Condado. At the time, it was famous for its olympic-sized swimming pool. Also, it was the venue for lots of sports activities like boxing. It was renamed the Dupont Plaza Hotel in the late 1970s.

In 1986, the hotel was the site of a tragic fire caused by disgruntled employees in the middle of a labor/salary dispute. It sat vacant until it was renovated and reopened in 1995 as the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.
