"Gatecrasher Wet" was the third album released by the Sheffield-based club Gatecrasher. It was released in 1999.

Release

On 26 July 1999, the Sheffield based club Gatecrasher released their third album, titled Gatecrasher Wet. After the massive success of their albums "Gatecrasher Black" (1998) and "Gatecrasher Red" (Feb 1999) a third installment to conincide with an incredible summer of dance music was almost expected. With the releases of other summer dance albums, such as Ministry of Sound's "The Ibiza Annual Ninety Nine" - which was renowned for massive disappointment among clubbers, and the album "Ibiza Euphoria" - contrasting completely as it was a big seller, Gatecrasher Wet was already in competition in many other albums. But the sheer quality of Gatecrasher Wet meant it blew all other competition away.

Presentation

With the 2 previous Gatecrasher albums having a unique look and feel to their presentation (velvet covers with golden lettering for the special editions) the third installment didn't disappoint, with a card digipack, layered with slippery plastic for the water droplet effects, and the lion logo. The tag line on the back of the album showed true confidence in the album; "Immerse yourself in the greatest dance album of the summer..." The inner contained a bold yellow booklet to continue the summer theme, and 2 teal blue discs, named Aqua and Sub respectively.

Dj Scott Bond once again mixed the album, and it was the incredible mixing which caught the publics attention. Incredibly, Scott Bond attempted to give the album a 'Wet' feel and theme, with a selction of songs that did indeed have wet, ripple sounds, and mixing that was described by as "every song being made for each other". The seamless mixes added to the 'flow' of music, and the sounds of the songs were a perfect match for the summer. Saltwater - one of the years big hits, was added to the album with a perfect remix, that brought out that unforgettable rhythm, and many other songs reflected the sounds we associate with the summer - bright, wet, and uplifitng.

Disc 1, named 'Aqua' had the most variety of sounds and rhythms, whilst Disc 2, named 'Sub' had a "harder" sound to it. It is said to this day that Gatecrasher Wet remains as one of the best dance albums ever compiled, as it ceases to become at all aged with its fresh sound. In many polls and votes, it came top of the list as the clubbers favourite album, though in most polls, "Renaissance: The Mix Collection" came top as the most influential album ever released.
