Yaacov Lozowick

Yaacov Lozowick (born in 1957 in Bad Kreuznach) is an Israeli historian and writer. Over a period of 14 years he was the director of the Archives at Yad Vashem.

Education

In 1980 Yaacov Lozowick gained qualifications as a tourist guide. In 1982 he graduated with a Bachelor in history and Jewish philosophy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI). In 1984 he obtained a diploma in pedagogy and in 1989 a Master for Contemporary Judaism from the HUJI. In 1995 he completed his doctorate for Contemporary Judaism in the HUJI.

Professional career

In 1990 Lozowick became a teacher of history at the Paul Himmelfarb high school for boys. Between 1986 and 1989 he worked as an instructor of modern Jewish history in World Union of Jewish Students Academy. After being involved in a research project at Yad Vashem since 1982 he served there as director of "Seminars for Educators from Abroad" [“The Israel’s Department of Education National Authority for the Commemoration of the Holocaust] from 1989 until 1993. On the suggestion of the Austrian political scientist Andreas Maislinger he initiated and moderated the first German-language Seminars for Educators from Abroad. From 1993 until 2007 he served as the director of the Archives at Yad Vashem.
