Carol Claire Aguilar Banawa (born March 4, 1981, in Pasay City, Philippines), better known in the Philippines as Carol Banawa, is a Filipina singer and actress. She was born in Pasay City to Albino and Cirila Banawa. She has two siblings, Alexander and Cherry. She was raised in Batangas. Self-confessed as an "ugly-duckling," Carol dreamt of having a musical career at a very young age. Having a thought that her dream would never come true, her family chose to believe in her drive for success. Carol entered a junior beauty pageant during the late 1980s when she was eight years old. this was the start of her path to stardom. She was eventually invited to join the new roster of ABS-CBN stars through the children oriented show "Ang TV" [ [http://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/ent-072904-carol.aspx The Carol Banawa Story (Entertainment Feature)] ] and became a famous music star in the Philippine music mainstream. She is a Star Magic Batch 4 alumni.

Reminiscing Carol's Early Life

cquote|I entered the crazy world of show business because I wanted to show the world that there's still more that they don't know about Carol. [ [http://www.pinoyvision.com/artist/carol_banawa/carol_bio.htm Carol Banawa Biography] ]

Carol started to sing when she was just a little girl when her family was still in Saudi Arabia. Having no playmates and always left at home, she was always encouraged to sing by her mom. And Carol eventually found out that she's into singing, too. When she and her family went back home to the Philippines, she was always requested to sing in social gatherings and she soon found herself immersed in the world of show-business.

She enjoys singing a lot. It's not because she wanted to become an "artista" (movie artist or celebrity). She was never really interested in becoming one. She just enjoys singing, acting and dancing, considering them all as a hobby--something she did part-time because she was prioritizing her studies. [http://www.angelfire.com/bc3/carolbanawa/CBWT.html Carol Banawa Women Today (Feature Article)] ] Unfortunately, her brother was killed and her father critically injured by carbon monoxide poisoning (they were napping in their car, with the engine running to operate the air conditioner, while waiting at a mall), and the things which she had considered a hobby became her source of income; and she had to give up school.

In 1997, she released "Carol" and in 2000 its re-packaged version under Star Records, a recording company owned by ABS-CBN. "Carol" contains mainly easy listening music. This album reflects so much of her character--a typical teenager slowly learning the many ways of the world. [http://www.pinoyvision.com/artist/carol_banawa/carol_bio2.htm Carol Banawa Biography (page 2)] ] In the re-packaged version, three other songs were included.

"Transition"

cquote|Transition - a change or passing from one condition, place, thing or activity.Wait! Don't get all confused now. This is not a lecture:) I just want to describe what has happened in my life for the past two years... Everything is one big TRANSITION, and it made me who I am right now...

In 2001, Carol released "Transition". This album remarks her musical refinement and maturity. Though some easy listening songs still remain in this album, her voice sounded a bit more mature, and is noticeable in the songs, "Bawat Pintig Ng Puso" (Every Beat of The Heart) and "Hindi Kita Malimot" (I Can't Forget You). Still, a few easy listening songs remain. For example, the song "Muntik na Kitang Minahal" (I Almost Loved You) is a typical easy listening song. But the next track, "Can Never Be Me" is more of the modern style. Its remix version sounds even more modern, and with an urban-inflected tone.

The most well-known song in this album is the song "Stay" which she performed with Jay Durias, vocalist of the band South Border. Carol dedicated the said song in loving memory of her older brother, Alexander, who died tragically in 1999 due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
