Scorpene submarines by theRoyal Malaysian Navy , in a deal estimated to be worth USD800 million. The negotiations were done through a Malaysian company, Perimekar Sdn Bhd, to buy two Scorpene submarines and a used Agosta submarine produced by the French government under a French-Spanish joint venture, Armaris. Perimekar at the time was owned by a company called Ombak Laut, which was wholly owned by Abdul Razak. The contract was not competitive as the Malaysian ministry of defense paid €1 billion (RM4.5 billion) to Amaris for the three submarines, for which Perimekar received a commission of €114 million (RM510 million). Deputy Defense Minister Zainal Abdidin Zin told theDewan Rakyat , Malaysia's parliament, that the money was paid for "coordination and support services" although the fee amounted to a whopping 11 percent of the sales price for the submarines. His reported friendship with Mongolian
Altantuya ended and subsequently led her to begin harassing him. He then asked for help from the police, and this led to the murder and blowing up of her body allegedly by two officers from the special action unit (Unit Tindakan Khas). Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar are alleged to have murdered Altantuya in a jungle in Bukit Raja between 10pm on Oct 19 and 11am the following day, in 2006. They were then serving as body guards of Najib. The officers have been charged with the murder, and Abdul Razak Baginda has been charged with abetting them. The charges carry a mandatory death penalty. If convicted, all three would be sentenced to death. He has since admitted to the relationship, which ended in about 2005. Baginda's family is hugely supportive of him and has maintained his innocence in the murder. The case is still ongoing at the moment. On

In a

A statutory declaration was filed on
July 1 ,2008 by Abdul Razak Baginda's private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, disclosing Najib's links to the murdered Mongolian girl. He said the police omitted information about the relationship between Najib and Mongolian murder victim Altantuya Shaariibuu in his statement. Balasubramaniam detailed conversations in a statutory declaration in which the well-connected political analyst allegedly told him he had in effect inherited Altantuya as a lover from Najib, who passed her on because he didn’t want to be harassed as deputy prime minister. Among other lurid details, Balasubramaniam described text messages between Najib and Abdul Razak in which the latter was asking for help to avoid arrest. There were accusations that this new statutory declaration could have been due to intimidation or inducement, and was done not of his own free will. His lawyer Americk Singh Sidhu said he was not able to get in touch with Bala despite repeated phone calls. Even behind bars under ISA detention, Raja Petra's website Malaysia Today carried a report detailing allegations on an exchange of text messages between Najib and Shafee Abdullah, the prominent lawyer who represented Abdul Razak Baginda before he was charged with abetting two police officers in the murder of the Altantunya. The SMSes, which went on from 8 November to 2 December, 2006 raises some questions over the handling of the murder case and suggests that Najib took a strong interest in the investigation from the beginning.
