Triathlon one 0 one

Triathlon one 0 one

Triathlon One 0 One is a 101-mile triathlon race. In 2006 the international governing body of the sport, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) reduced the distance of the Long Distance World Championships from a swim/bike/run of 1.86 / 80.6 / 18.6 miles, or 3 / 130 / 30 kilometers, to a swim/bike/run of 1.86 / 49.6 / 12.4 miles, or 3 / 80 / 20 kilometers. Their argument was that longer triathlons were less healthy for athletes, and also less desirable; the shorter distance also appealed more to the media who broadcast the events. The World Triathlon Corporation, organizer of the world-famous Ironman Triathlon series, Ironman (2.4 / 112 / 26.2 mi) is considerably longer than the One 0 One Distance.

History

Initially, organizers of Tri One 0 One pitched the benefits of this distance directly to athletes and offered larger prizes than those offered by the World Triathlon Corporation in hopes of luring elite athletes to participate.

All of the 2007 Tri One 0 One races were canceled in August 2007, leaving the future of Tri One 0 One in doubt. While the organizers have yet to publicly release a statement as to why the races were canceled, participants cite remote race venues, long distance and lack of race-related resources as deciding factors for why the races were not well attended.
