John Sherwood (or John Shirwood) travelled in Italy as a young man and it was probably then that he learned the rudiments of Greek. He was Archdeacon of Richmond and later Bishop of Durham. He was nominated on March 29 1484 and probably was consecrated on May 26 1484. He died on January 14 1494.Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 242]
