Woodrow Wilson High School is located in Tacoma, Washington, on Orchard Street and 11th Street. Wilson High one of five traditional high schools in the Tacoma Public School System and is located within distance of Downing Elementary School, also in Tacoma. The school's current principal is Dan Besset. On January 3, 2007 Wilson provided shelter to the students of Foss High School due to a school shooting (Tacoma High School Shooting) until plans were changed for the victims.Fact|date=February 2007

Academics

Wilson High School is served by 73 classroom teachers, 52% of whom have a Master's Degree or higher. The school offers Advanced Placement classes in English Literature, U.S. History, Calculus, Civics, and Chemistry. It also takes part in the Running Start program, through which students can earn college and high school credit at local community colleges.

The annual drop-out rate, as reported in the 2005-2006 school year, was 6.2%. The on-time graduation rate was 76.1%, and the extended graduation rate was 82.4%. In the 2006-2007 school year, 84.6% of 10th grade students passed the writing section of the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) exam; 78.2% passed the reading section, 41.2% passed the math section, and 32.1% passed the science component of the exam. Demographics

As of October 2006, the school had 1,271 students, 53.7% male and 46.3% female. The student population was composed of 1.3% Native American students, 6.2% Asian, 17.8% African American, 3.4% Hispanic, and 71.2% White.

Daffodil Festival

Every year, Wilson participates in the Pierce County Daffodil Festival. A competition is held in house to select the Wilson Princess, who goes on to compete against other regional schools, for the Daffodil Festival Queen title. The Queen title is considered the highest honor of the regional festival. The Wilson band accompanies the float of Wilson princesses every year in the parade, held annually in April.
