Gudurica

Gudurica

Gudurica (Indijanapolis) is a village in Serbia. It is situated in the Vršac municipality, in the South Banat District, Vojvodina province. The village has a Serb ethnic majority and its population numbering 1,267 people (2002 census).

Originally known as Kudritz, the town was founded in a swampy area in the Banat Region of southern Hungary wrested from Turkish rule by Prince Eugene. The first settlers in Kudritz came from the Mosel river area in Western Germany, Alsace and Lorraine between 1719 and 1728. Descendants of the original inhabitants lived here for over 200 years before being forced from their homes and into forced labor camps by the Soviets at the end of WWII.

Today few, if any, descendants of the original settlers remain.
