The Washington Diplomat

The Washington Diplomat is an independent monthly newspaper focusing primarily on the foreign diplomatic community in the nation's capital. With a readership of more than 80,000, the publication is distributed to all Washington-based foreign embassies, the World Bank and IMF Group, the U.S. State Department, Capitol Hill, the White House and other points within the greater metropolitan area, as well as the United Nations in New York.

Established in 1994, The Washington Diplomat was originally called Embassy Flash. Its main editorial concentration is international news and events, with each issue highlighting different nations through ambassador interviews, both on the front cover and inside features. Other regular columns include “People of World Influence," monthly medical articles, Capitol Hill, State Department, White House and U.N.-related topics, as well as stories focusing on international relations, politics, trade, business and diplomacy.

The Washington Diplomat also features regular industry reports with special sections scheduled throughout the year covering developments in the education, medical, hotel/travel and luxury living industries.

The Washington Diplomat's Culture Section spotlights various international events in the Washington area, with reviews on museum exhibits, art, theater, music, opera, photography, galas and any other cultural offerings with an international bend. The Washington Diplomat also includes regular updates on embassy appointments, world holidays, social functions, an events calendar and the largest directory of foreign films in the area for the city's international community.

In September 2005, The Washington Diplomat introduced the Diplomatic Pouch, a bimonthly online newsletter that provides coverage of international news and events in the nation’s capital with two regular features: News, written by Anna Gawel, and Lifestyle, written by Gail Scott.

Victor Shiblie is the Publisher and Editor in Chief, Fuad Shiblie is Director of Operations, Anna Gawel is the Managing Editor, Chris Smith is the Sales Manager, and Cari Bambach is the Graphic Designer.
