Isabell Masters

Isabell Masters, Ph.D (born January 9, 1918) of Topeka, Kansas was a perennial third-party candidate (Looking Back Party) for President of the United States in the United States presidential election, 1984, the United States presidential election, 1992 (339 votes), the United States presidential election, 1996 in which she was only on the ballot in Arkansas (but also received a few votes in California and Maryland) (752 votes total), 2000 and in the United States presidential election, 2004. Her 1992 running mate was Walter Ray Masters; her 1996 running mate was Shirley Jean Masters, both of them children of hers.

She also made several unsuccessful attempts at winning the Republican primary elections for President. For example, in 1996 she was on the ballot in Oklahoma and won 1,052 votes (Bob Dole won by a large margin). A mother of six, including Rev. Thomas A. Masters Sr. of the New Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Riviera Beach, Florida. Rev. Masters had been one of the community leaders protesting the George W. Bush/Dick Cheney effort to stop the Florida election recount following the United States presidential election, 2000. Daughter Cora Masters is the ex-wife of former Washington, D.C. mayor Marion Barry.

The Looking Back Party (1980-2000) ran Dr. Isabell Masters as its Presidential candidate in 1984, 1992, 1996, and 2000. The party was received votes in California twice; Deirdre Griswold for President in 1980 (Workers World Party in California) and Larry Holmes in 1988.
