Ivo Vajgl (born
3 March 1943 inMaribor ) is aSlovenia n politician and diplomat.He was appointed foreign minister by Prime Minister
Anton Rop on6 July 2004 , replacingDimitrij Rupel , who left theLiberal Democracy of Slovenia party to join the oppositionSlovenian Democratic Party . Vajgl's tenure ended on3 December 2004 with Rupel's reappointment to the position in the new administration ofJanez Janša , formed after the 2004 elections to the National Assembly, which had been held on3 October .As foreign minister, Vajgl joined Rop in signing the
Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe inRome on29 October 2004 .Between 2004 and 2007, Vajgl worked as the advisor for foreign policy in the cabinet of the
president of Slovenia Janez Drnovšek .Since the mid 1990s, Vajgl was member of the
Liberal Democracy of Slovenia . In 2005, he ran as a candidate for president of the party, but was defeated byJelko Kacin . In 2007, Vajgl left the Liberal Democracy and joined the newly formed party "Zares ".
