Anglo-Spanish War

Five wars between successive British states and Spain are known as Anglo-Spanish Wars:
* The Anglo-Spanish War of 1585–1604 was part of the Eighty Years' War and included the Spanish Armada, 1588.
* The Anglo-Spanish War of 1625–1630 was part of the Thirty Years' War. (See 1st Duke of Buckingham for some details of this conflict.)
* The Anglo-Spanish War of 1654–1660 included the capture of Jamaica.
* The Anglo-Spanish War of 1727–1729 was a failed Spanish attempt to retake Gibraltar.
* The Anglo-Spanish War of 1761–1763 was part of the Seven Years' War.
* The Anglo-Spanish War of 1779–1783 was part of the American Revolutionary War.
* The Anglo-Spanish War of 1796–1808 was part of the Part of the French Revolutionary Wars (1796-1802) and Napoleonic Wars (1803-1808).

Other wars that pitted England against Spain, though not commonly known as "Anglo-Spanish" wars, include:
* The War of the Spanish Succession (1702–1713)
* The War of the Quadruple Alliance (1718–1720)
* The War of Jenkins' Ear (1739–1742), which later merged into the War of the Austrian Succession (1740–1748)
