Louisville Division of Fire

The Louisville Division of Fire, commonly known as Louisville Fire Department or Louisville Fire & Rescue (abbreviated LFD or LFR), is the sole fire suppression agency for the former city of Louisville, Kentucky and comprises one of twenty fire departments within Louisville Metro. From 1996 to 2005, LFD also provided emergency medical services. EMS is now provided by Louisville Metro EMS however LFD still provides first-response medical care. Today LFD is the largest fire department in Metro Louisville in terms of equipment and manpower though not in geographical area served.

LFD is known to be the second-oldest, all-career personnel fire department in the United States and has the oldest operating firehouse in America (Engine Co. 7, in use since 1871) [http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=84651904]
