Bourne End is a village in Hertfordshire, England. [ [http://www.england-legislation.hmso.gov.uk/si/si1990/Uksi_19900284_en_1.htm The A41 London-Birmingham Trunk Road (East of Bourne End to South of Kings Langley)] ] There was a rail disaster on the West Coast Main Line at Bourne End on September 30, 1945 when an express train was derailed with many fatalities. Its name comes from the Bourne Gutter which flows into the River Bulbourne in Bourne End. According to local legend it only flows in times of national strife. It last flowed in 1992 during the first Gulf War having not flowed since 1945.
